THERMAL GLASS WOOL INSULATION
The sound absorption property of glass wool has a close relationship with how it is installed. When the glass wool board air layer at the back, the sound absorption effect is similar to the glass wool board air layer. In low and medium frequency, the sound absorptivity will be increased according to the thickness of air layer. However, the effect becomes not obvious when the air layer thickness achieve a certain value.
It will gain a better sound absorptivity when overlapping glass wool in different density. For example: Put one layer of 24kg/m3 glass wool board in 25mm thick and one layer of 32kg/m3 glass wool board in 25mm thick together, its sound absorption effect will be better than using 32kg/m3 glasswool board in 50mm thick.
Making 24kg/m3 glasswool board into a one meter long wedge with triangle section, increasing the density of glass wool material, the average sound absorption coefficient could be close to 1.0.
With increasing of thickness of glass wool board, the low and medium frequency sound absorption coefficient increases observably, but it does not big change in high frequency(It's always high in high frequency). Keep the thickness of glass wool unchanged, increase the density, the sound absortion coefficient in low and medium frequency is also increased. However, when the density is up to a certain value, the glasswool material become dense, the flow resistance is higher than the optimum, then the sound absorption coefficient decreases on the contrary.
For 16kg/m3 glasswool (glass wool )with thickness more than 50mm, the coefficient is about 0.2 in low frequency 125Hz; and it will be close to 1.0 in low and high frequency (>500Hz). When the thickness of glasswool continuing increase from 50mm, the sound absorption coefficient increases gradually. When the thickness is bigger than 1meter, the sound absorption coefficient will be close to 1.0 in low frequency 125Hz. When the thickness unchanged, increase the density, the sound absorption coefficient of glasswool (glass wool) in low frequency will be increased too. When the density is up to 110kg/m3, the sound absorption property achieves the maximum value, 50mm thickness in frequency 125Hz, the coefficient will be 0.6-0.7.
When the density of glass wool (glasswool) exceeds 120kg/m3, the sound absorption property decreases on the contrary. It's because the material become dense, the sound absorption in medium and high frequency has been influenced a lot. When the density is more than 300kg/m3, the sound absorption property of glasswool( (glass wool) decrease a lot.
Application:
Centrifuging glasswool (glass wool) can be made into wall board, ceiling board, suspended absorber.
It can absorb the acoustic energy, decrease reverberation time, cut down the room noises.
Centrifuging glasswool (glass wool) has excellent elasticity to be first choice for anti-vibration pad material for floor.
